INDIANAPOLIS — A deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was arrested by the Lawrence Police Department on Saturday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
According to the MCSO, David Hodges was a deputy sheriff at the time of his arrest, though he has since been terminated.
Court documents indicate that, around 4:55 p.m., an LPD officer was called to High Timber Drive on the report of a rollover crash with a vehicle that had crashed into a residence. There was slight damage to the home’s northwest corner trim and nearby landscaping. The residence’s owner was not home at the time of the crash.
Per court records, the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was identified as Hodges. Police reported that his balance was unsteady, his eyes were glassy, his speech and movements were slowed and the smell of alcohol was on his breath.
A passenger in Hodges’ vehicle told police that Hodges had picked them up and planned to drive the both of them to a bar. The passenger, however, had left an item at their home, causing Hodges to reverse down the street.
That passenger told police they did not see what caused the crash “and only felt the vehicle rolling and the airbags deploying,” according to court documents.
Both Hodges and the passenger were checked out by medical personnel at the scene. Court records indicate neither Hodges nor his passenger were seriously injured in the crash.
Following a breathalyzer test showing a blood alcohol content of .122, Hodges was taken into the Marion County Adult Detention Center, per the MCSO. He currently faces the following charges:
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment (Class A Misdemeanor)
- Reckless driving causing property damage (Class B Misdemeanor)
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a BAC above .08 (Class C Misdemeanor)
At the time of this article’s publication, Hodges remains in police custody. Bond information and an initial hearing have not yet been set.
