Last month, Maricopa County Superintendent Steve Watson and Legacy EV, an automotive technology company providing workforce solutions for the electric vehicle industry, trained 27 teachers across 20 schools in 15 districts to be club sponsors and launch EV Innovators Clubs in their schools this fall.
Legacy EV will work directly with school staff sponsors of EV Innovators Clubs to help 5th-grade to 12th-grade students get hands-on EV experience as they work together to design and build their own electric go karts.
The students will showcase their electric go karts in the Arizona Public Service Electric Light Parade on December 7.
In addition to assembling their own EV go kart, students will learn from professionals in the EV industry about career opportunities in the field such as advanced manufacturing, system design, electrical systems integration and much more, opening the door to a potential career path in the future.

“I think that the most valuable part of the training was the fact that it was all put on by former teachers,” said Bryan Balog, Justine Spitalny STEAM School. “It was very engaging, hands on, and informative. The lesson plans for the club made me feel much more at ease as well.”
