BOONE COUNTY, Ind. — An investigation is underway after a driver was observed driving “recklessly” in the southbound lanes of I-65 Thursday afternoon before being pronounced deceased.

Deputies with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 12:55 p.m. to I-65 SB near the 145-mile marker after receiving reports that a vehicle was “swerving dangerously” while endangering other motorists.

BCSO said the driver, who has been identified as 47-year-old Jerry Tackett of Geneva, Illinois, eventually pulled over to the side of the road.

As deputies approached the vehicle, BCSO said they discovered that Tackett appeared to be unresponsive and suffering from a medical emergency. Emergency medical personnel were immediately called to the scene to assist.

Tackett was soon transported to an area hospital where he later died. The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation.
