Manhattan BP Mark Levine endorses Carlina Rivera for Congress

She’s getting a BP boost.

Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine is endorsing Councilwoman Carlina Rivera in the packed Democratic primary for New York’s 10th congressional district.

“From housing to health care, Carlina Rivera has a proven record of delivering for our city, and I’m proud to endorse her in this race,” Levine, a former councilman, said in a Sunday statement.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Carlina throughout her time in elected office, and I’ve come to know her as a brave leader who is not afraid of a fight, who’s willing to take tough stands, who cares passionately about public health, environmental resilience, and the fight for affordable housing,” he added.

Levine joins a slew of electeds who’ve endorsed Rivera to rep lower Manhattan and a swath of Brooklyn. Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and Reps. Nydia Velázquez and Adriano Espaillat are backing Rivera.

“Having been in the trenches with Mark over the years delivering for New Yorkers, I feel even prouder to have his trust in continuing the work of representing the communities that raised me, and I know he will remain a steadfast partner in that work,” stated Rivera.

Other candidates in the race include attorney Dan Goldman, former Rep. Liz Holtzman, Rep. Mondaire Jones and Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou.

A bevy of electeds has weighed in on the closely-watched race, but Rivera is the only contender with support from members of New York’s congressional delegation.

The Democratic primary is set for Aug. 23.
