LOUISVILLE — A man who allegedly shot an Orange County Sheriff’s deputy was killed during a police shooting in Louisville Saturday night.
According to a press release, Indiana State Police and officers with the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department were attempting to locate Schepers in a home in the 3700 block of Wheeler Avenue in Louisville before Saturday night’s shooting. During the investigation, police successfully located Schepers.
Once police found Schepers, a confrontation happened. According to ISP, Schepers was shot and killed during the confrontation.
State police expect additional information on the shooting to be released by the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department.
Previous reporting indicates Schepers shot Orange County Sheriff’s deputy Zac Andry during a traffic stop at the intersection of U.S. Highway 150 and State Road 56 in West Baden. Andry was transported to a Louisville-area hospital after the shooting.
As of the last update ISP provided, Andry was in critical but stable condition.
Police had previously executed a search warrant on a residence in the 1800 block of East Market Street in New Albany, Indiana. Law enforcement did not locate Schepers during that search.
Investigators also located the vehicle Schepers drove away in after the shooting — a silver 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. Schepers still hadn’t been located when police found the car.
Schepers drove away with a female passenger after he allegedly shot Andry. Police located the passenger in Orangeville around 8 a.m. Friday and took her into custody.
Indiana State Police have set up fund to support Andry and his family. The account was established at Springs Valley Bank and Trust — which is located at 8482 State Road 56.
