ANDERSON, Ind. — One person was killed in a shooting in Anderson on Saturday.
According to a press release, Anderson Police Department Officers were called to an apartment complex in the 800 block of 53rd Street around 11:55 p.m. Saturday to investigate a shooting. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 28-year-old man who had been shot.
Per APD, the victim was transported from the scene to a local hospital in serious condition. Police confirmed the victim ultimately died at the hospital.
Investigators believe an altercation involving several individuals inside an apartment complex sparked the deadly shooting.
APD has arrested two suspects thus far in its investigation. In addition to the arrested suspects, the agency’s special weapons and tactics (SWAT) team helped investigators execute a search warrant in the 3500 block of Columbus Avenue. APD detained multiple individuals after executing the warrant.
The department reported that its detectives are still actively pursuing additional persons of interest related to the shooting. It is currently unclear exactly how many suspects and persons of interest APD is still searching for.
The two suspects APD arrested have already been remanded to the Madison County Jail. As of 5 p.m. Sunday, the department had not publicly announced any additional arrests related to the shooting.
The Madison County Coroner’s Office will release the shooting victim’s name once his family has been properly notified of his death. The coroner’s office will also help APD determine the victim’s exact manner and cause of death.
