INDIANAPOLIS — Police are on the scene of a shooting that left a man in critical condition near downtown Indianapolis Tuesday night.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched around 7:49 p.m. to the 800 block of Indiana Avenue in response to a shots fired run that was later upgraded to a person shot.

IMPD said officers arrived on the scene and found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Eskenazi Hospital for treatment of “critical” injuries, according to IMPD.

IMPD said preliminary information indicates the shooting stemmed from some type of disagreement between the victim and the suspect, who police also identified as an adult male. Detectives believe the victim and suspect knew each other.

Police are currently searching for the suspect after he reportedly fled the scene. As of this article’s publication, detectives have not provided any physical description of the suspect.

IMPD reassured the public that there was no ongoing threat to the community as this was an isolated incident.
