A man fell from the Dan Ryan Expressway Saturday and died after stopping near a four-car crash, Illinois State Police say.

At 1:58 a.m., the man stopped his car on the right shoulder of I-94 at 26th Street and had been standing near the car’s passenger side, Illinois State Police spokesperson Josh Korando said. Another car then drove close by, and the man fell from the overpass, Korando added.

The man who fell was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is not clear what made the man fall and investigations are ongoing, police said. The man’s name had not yet been publicly released Saturday evening, but Cook County Medical Examiner records show that he was 26-years-old.

There were no medical transports related to the four-car crash that had led the man to pull over, Chicago Fire spokesperson Juan Hernandez said.
