A man serving a life sentence for a deadly pipe bombing outside a Las Vegas Strip casino in 2007 has escaped from prison, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.
Porfirio Duarte-Herrara, 42, was discovered missing about 7 a.m. today from the Southern Desert Correctional Center in Indian Springs, about 45 miles northwest of Las Vegas, prison officials said.
Search teams were looking for Duarte-Herrara, who had been at the prison since February 2010, officials said. They did not detail how he escaped.
Duarte-Herrara and a co-defendant, Omar Rueda-Denvers, were convicted of murder in the death of 24-year-old Willebaldo Dorantes Antonio in a bombing on the roof of the Luxor parking garage on May 7, 2007.
