NEEDHAM, Ind. – A man tried to help himself to a fire department’s full supply last week.
According to the Needham Community Fire Department, a pickup truck showed up at Station 81 (6822 E 350 N) at 5:13 a.m. on Thursday, May 30. The driver got out and tried to steal fuel from the fire station.
“This individual decided to attempt to help himself to our mission critical fuel supply which we utilize for our fire trucks ensuring we can respond to your emergency when you need us,” the department wrote on Facebook.
The department clarified that the man was unable to get any fuel; a secondary locking mechanism prevented him from doing so. Fire personnel were not onsite and were instead at Station 82, the department noted.
“As your local fire department, we do our absolute best to serve you in any and all ways that we possibly can, but we can’t do that without fuel to put in our fire trucks,” the post said.
The department serves the Needham community and Clark Township.
Anyone who recognizes the truck or the man should contact the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office crime tips line at (317) 346-4654.
