One man is dead and another has been arrested after a shooting on Thursday evening under the Interstate 17 Maricopa Freeway.
On May 21, 2023, around 6:00 p.m., Phoenix police officers responded to the area of 3rd Street and the Maricopa Freeway Access Road regarding a subject with a gun. When officers arrived, they did not locate the suspect, 36-year-old Billy Jameson, but did hear gunshots in the area. Officers were contacted and directed to an encampment under the Maricopa Freeway on 3rd Street. There they located Jose Estrada, age 49, with gunshot wounds. Mr. Estrada did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.
Information related to this case remains part of the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Silent Witness at 480(WITNESS) or 480(TESTIGO) and provide an anonymous tip. Rewards will be paid for information leading to an arrest in this case.
