SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Summer is still going strong, but Siouxland Libraries has created a contest with winter in mind.

It’s not uncommon to see artwork hanging on the walls at Siouxland Libraries. Now, the library is asking you to help put some art between the pages.

“We like to show up in unexpected places (laugh),” Digital Services Librarian Emily Harris said.

Emily Harris is a digital services librarian, and says Siouxland Libraries is looking for submissions for the Adult Bookmark Contest.

“We’ve done the bookmark contest before for teens and we had adults ask for one for them too,” Harris said.

The Adult Bookmark Contest is open to anyone age 18 and older, showcasing original artwork.

“They can be done on a computer or by hand, no AI please, but it’s a great chance to exercise your creativity, beyond that it’s up to you,” Harris said.

But the artwork should fit the theme “Winter Reading”.

“A cozy scene, something with tea or books is a good hint for librarians to like it,” Harris said.

And you have 15.5 square inches to catch their eye.

“We do have a specific size that we’re asking for, and you can find the template and all of the rules in detail on our website at siouxlandlib.org,” Harris said.

The top designs will be turned into bookmarks, and the winning artists will receive a stack of the bookmark.

“To know that readers will enjoy it, and it’s a different way to get your art and creativity out there as opposed to a gallery or something like that,” Harris said.

Experiencing local art by simply opening a book.

The deadline to submit your artwork is October 1.
