LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Six people have been taken into custody following a 2023 shooting.
According to Lafayette Police Department, on Nov.14, 2023, a shooting incident took place in which multiple gunshots struck a home and a truck on Beck Lane. This resulted in a lengthy investigation alongside the Frankfort Police Department, which resulted in the arrests of six individuals on Tuesday.
Their charges are as follows:
Keaton Compton, 27:
- Attempted murder (the most serious of these charges—a Level 1 Felony that could result in a prison sentence of up to 40 years)
- Attempted aggravated battery
- Battery by means of a deadly weapon
- Intimidation
- Criminal recklessness
- Criminal mischief
- Obstruction of justice
- Unlawful carrying of a handgun by a felon
- Unlawful possession of a serious violent felon
Manuel Vega, 21:
- Attempted aggravated battery (the most serious charge—a Level 3 felony that could lead to a maximum prison sentence of 16 years)
- Battery by means of a deadly weapon
- Intimidation
- Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon
- Obstruction of justice
- Unlawful carrying of a handgun
Lazaro Vega, 19:
- Assisting a criminal (typically, a Class A misdemeanor. However, if prosecutors determine that the person they were assisting committed a Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 felony, that charge gets upgraded to a Level 6 felony with a maximum sentence of 2.5 years)
- Obstruction of justice
- False informing
Madison Heathcote, 19
- Assisting a criminal (see Lazaro Vega’s charges)
- False informing
Wyatt Williams, 22
- Attempted aggravated battery (the most serious charge—a Level 3 felony that could lead to a maximum prison sentence of 16 years)
- Battery by means of a deadly weapon
- Obstruction of justice
- Unlawful carrying of a handgun
An unnamed 16-year-old male (Note: it is currently unknown whether this individual will be tried as an adult):
- Attempted aggravated battery
- Intimidation with a deadly weapon
- Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon
- Possession of a firearm by a dangerous person
LPD said all six suspects were arrested without incident.
