A Louisiana man confessed to fatally stabbing a woman who was driving his Uber near New Orleans, authorities said.
Yolanda Dillon, 54, was stabbed multiple times in the parking lot of a Travelodge at the end of the Uber ride, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto said, according to local television station WDSU.
The suspect, 29-year-old Brandon Jacobs, was arrested at the Harvey, La. hotel on Thursday afternoon within “hours of the murder,” the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Harvey is across the Mississippi River from New Orleans.
Jacobs was charged with second-degree murder.
Lopinto said Jacobs confessed after the arrest.
“His confession basically stated that he woke up yesterday morning and decided he was going to kill someone and decided that was going to be his day,” Lopinto told reporters during a news conference.
The victim, who had worked for the New Orleans police as a fiscal budget analyst for the past 10 years, was found inside the car suffering from multiple stab wounds, and later died at a hospital, Lopinto said.
“We asked him specifically, ‘How did you pick her?’” Lopinto said. “His response was ‘I didn’t pick her, Uber picked her.’ She was the random person that picked him up that day.”
Jacobs also allegedly recorded the aftermath of the incident and posted the video on Facebook, Lopinto said.
