As the leaders of the Nevada National Organization of Women (NOW), reproductive freedom is a critical issue to us and our members, and it’s on the line this November. We work every day to ensure women have more rights today than the generations before them, but that was no longer the case the minute Roe v. Wade was overturned. Many of us have been in this fight for decades. We won’t — and we can’t — stop now.

This is why we are committed to electing leaders who will fight to expand and protect reproductive freedom. And in the race for governor, only one candidate can be trusted to do that.

In his first term, Gov. Steve Sisolak decriminalized abortion, removed antiquated and cruel requirements to obtain an abortion, allocated $6 million to family-planning services and signed an executive order to protect abortion providers and out-of-state patients from punishment by other states.

He’s always proven to be on the side of Nevada women.

Joe Lombardo is a threat to everything we’ve been fighting for. He’s made his anti-abortion agenda clear, proving he’ll put our reproductive rights at risk. And with the overwhelming majority of Nevadans supporting the right to an abortion, it’s critical they’re informed on his dangerous agenda.

He’s expressed support for banning contraception. He’d support a referendum to overturn Nevada statute enshrining the right to an abortion into law. And he’d overturn Sisolak’s executive order expanding protections.

The proof isn’t just in his words — it’s in his actions.

He was recently caught using taxpayer dollars to benefit crisis pregnancy centers — which mask as a resource to pregnant women but actually aim to persuade them from terminating their pregnancies. Metro donated a helicopter ride-along as an auction item to a local crisis pregnancy center. Guess who signed the certificate? Sheriff Lombardo.

The sheriff is even directing the community to these institutions, adding multiple crisis pregnancy centers to a Metro community resource pamphlet. Guess how many abortion or pro-choice groups were listed? Zero.

There’s no doubt Lombardo will be an anti-choice governor if elected. He’s already using taxpayer dollars at the local level to help these deceptive anti-abortion organizations; this is a clear indication of how he’d direct funds in the state budget — away from family-planning services and toward anti-choice groups and initiatives.

He’s on the wrong side of the issue, and he knows it. No matter what Lombardo says on the debate stage or on the campaign trail, we know the truth about his harmful stances.
