SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Papa Woody’s Wood-Fired Pizza has been a part of Sioux Falls for eight years but on Christmas Eve, owners Lisa Esser and Steve Blumke announced on Facebook they’d be closing their doors.

The post says they did not make the decision lightly and that it would take quote ‘an absolute Christmas Miracle’ for them to keep going.

For the first time since that post, KELOLAND News spoke with Esser Monday. She reiterated over the phone that the decision was a difficult one but they are actively looking for solutions on how they might be able to move forward as a restaurant. She also promises they are finding ways to take care of their employees and anyone who might have a gift card for Papa Woody’s.

The lights are now off at Papa Woody’s but they aren’t alone. Another restaurant in town seems to have also gone dark, leaving many customers with questions.

McNally’s Irish Pub near 69th and Western Avenue has not posted on social media since December 15th. Just a week prior to that, McNally’s shared a post from another Sioux Falls restaurant saying they could use some support. If you visit the pub’s website you are now just greeted with an Irish blessing.

KELOLAND News was able to get a hold of the general manager for McNally’s today who says as of right now they are closed but at this point she could not give any further information. We hope to learn more in January.

Over the phone, Lisa Esser with Papa Woody’s also shared insight of similar struggles many small businesses are facing right now. She says they all need support whether through spending money locally or even just leaving positive reviews.
