‘Tis the season! Cincinnati’s annual tree lighting ceremony Light Up the Square is Friday night. Tune in for a live presentation of the lighting of the Fountain Square Christmas tree to begin the holiday season hosted by WLWT’s own Sheree Paolello and Mike Dardis. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. with live music and special appearances.Join WLWT live at 7 p.m. for a special presentation of Light Up The Square. The tree lighting ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. with fireworks to follow. The tree will be decorated in 20,000 white lights and illuminated five foot star in Fountain Square, located between Fifth and Vine streets.Viewers at home will be able to watch the broadcast on Channel 5 and participate virtually in several ways including the opportunity to have their own tree lighting shown at the end of the broadcast.Visitors will be also be able to see Santa Claus, Cincinnati’s famous Shillito’s Elves display and participate in ice skating or bumper cars. Reservations for the rink aren’t required but are recommended and can be made here.The ice rink features two different kinds of sessions:• Bumpers and skating: $15 — During this split ice session, a barrier will divide the rink into two sections, with skaters on one side and cars on the other.• Skating Only: $10 — During this session, the entire ice is available for ice skating.The ice rink is open to all ages.Children ages 4 and under are free.
