LENNOX, S.D. (KELO) — The 2024 regular season will close Thursday, with a top-ranked battle in class 11A and it will be this week’s KELOLAND Sports Game of the Week.
#2 Lennox is set to host #3 Dell Rapids on Thursday night. Pregame begins at 7 p.m. with kick-off at 7:05. You can watch the game on KELOXTRA or in the player at the top of the story.
OFFENSE VS. DEFENSE
The big storyline for Thursday’s game will be the Lennox offense against the Dell Rapids defense.
The Orioles are scoring 40.3 points per game this season, which is best in 11A. Lennox has thrown for 2,222 passing yards and 26 scores this season.
That success stems from standout quarterback, Boston Katzer. The senior continues to be one of the best QB’s in the state.
On the flip side, the Dell Rapids defense has been strong this season. They’re allowing just 14.4 points per game, second best in class 11A.
The Quarriers are allowing just 111 passing yards per game. Opponents have just nine touchdowns in eight games against Dells.
Katzer is averaging 253 yards and more than three touchdowns passing per game, which means something will have to give Thursday.
COLE RUESINK
Katzer will be a key contributor for the Lennox offense, but Dell Rapids’ Cole Ruesink will be another player to watch for.
The senior running back has 984 rushing yards this year on 115 carries. That 8.5 yards per carry and 123 yards per game. He also has 11 touchdowns.
The dual threat back also has 14 receptions for 186 yards. That means he’s responsible for 146 yards per game.
THE SERIES
Lennox and Dell Rapids did not play in 2023. The two years prior to that went the Quarriers way. They beat Lennox 41-7 in 2022 and 28-14 in 2021.
