LENNOX, SD (KELO) — This year’s Fourth of July parade in Lennox welcomed people from across the area Thursday morning. 6-year-old Tucker Swanger is a pro when it comes to catching candy at parades.

“I had a parade once at night and they threw glow sticks and candy. I got lots and lots of candy,” Swanger said.

Tucker and his family were some of the many that lined the streets of Lennox at this morning’s parade. Firetrucks, tractors, and more made their way through town.

Jackson, Emma and Laila Crisp are from Sioux Falls. They said this was one of their first parades they’ve gotten to this year.

“We’ve heard there’s a lot of candy, a lot of floats, so it’ll be a fun time. We actually came here because our grandparents set up a shop to sell a lot of different things,” Crisp said.

Lindsey Reemtsma was there with her family, too. She said she was most excited to see the bands play.

“We just go get all the candy and then bring it back to the bucket,” Reemtsma said.

Others, like Joe Steever, said they prefer to sit in the background and watch the excitement from afar.

“We usually come here every year and just to see family and friends and have a good day off,” Steever said.

Fireworks, candy and parades. A typical part of this holiday for several people, but it doesn’t overpower the true meaning for so many.

“Our country’s freedom and that’s basically what we’re celebrating this Independence Day,” Steever said.
