LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ind. — A Silverville man was arrested for murder early Saturday morning.

According to a Facebook post from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, 22-year-old Kameron McMaken was booked into the Lawrence County Jail and preliminarily charged with murder around 7 a.m.

Police reported that they first found McMaken in the 200 block of State Road 158 around 8:30 p.m. Friday. Sheriff’s deputies were initially called to the area to investigate a shooting.

When police arrived at the scene, they located a deceased individual suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office identified the decedent at 47-year-old Chad McMaken, the father of Kameron McMaken.

Before police arrived at the scene, 911 callers told dispatchers Kameron McMaken shot his father during an argument. Kameron McMaken was still in the area when police arrived, and deputies took him into custody without incident.

LCSO confirmed that its investigators conducted interviews with multiple witnesses and Kameron McMaken late Friday night and early Saturday morning. Deputies also executed a search warrant on the residence the shooting occurred at. Investigators recovered a gun they believe was used in the shooting during their search.

McMaken was formally arrested after deputies’ finished their preliminary investigation. Deputies received assistance from Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigators, the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office during their investigation.

McMaken’s case has not yet been entered in Indiana’s public court reporting system.
