GARRETSON, S.D. (KELO) — While many students have gone back to school, Labor Day weekend is a great time for families to get out and enjoy nature while the weather is still warm.
For many people, Labor Day weekend is the perfect time for the family to get outdoors.
“We like to go camping on Labor Day. It’s kind of our last hurrah for the summer,” camper Barb Reker said.
At Palisades State Park, the entire campground is booked out for the holiday weekend.
“Usually the weather’s starting to cool down a little bit. So we, we see people, you know, actually wanting to get out,” district park supervisor Luke Dreckman said.
Aside from the nicer weather Dreckman says that holiday weekends are always filled with campers.
“So Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day are our busiest,” Dreckman said.
Giving people a weekend that they will remember forever.
“They get to spend time with family and they like to come out to the park where they, you know, kind of grew up making memories and kind of come out and relive those memories,” Dreckman said.
Which is something that the Reker family will be doing.
“We can have spend time together and just enjoying the outdoors,” Reker said.
While the Palisades is completely booked for this weekend, is still has campground openings through October.
