MANILA, Philippines–La Salle asserted its dominance over Ateneo once more, waltzing into a 25-21, 25-17, 25-20, sweep of its archrival in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday.
Coach Ramil de Jesus, however, saw the victory as just another step toward a bigger goal.
“We need to secure the No. 2 spot for a twice-to-beat advantage,” said De Jesus after the win at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Lady Spikers improved to 7-3 in the race for semifinal positioning. Defending champion NU remains on top at 9-1.
Mikole Reyes orchestrated La Salle’s attack with 19 excellent sets, feeding Angel Canino, who delivered 16 points and seven digs.
AC Miner accounted for 13 points, while Lyann de Guzman had 10 markers and 14 receptions for Ateneo (4-6) which saw its three-game win streak snapped, missing a chance to strengthen its Final Four bid.

La Salle has now won eight straight against Ateneo, its last loss dating back to Season 79. But for De Jesus, that streak is merely a footnote.
“We have other goals,” he said.
