KOKOMO, Ind. — Officials with the Kokomo Police Department are asking the public for help in identifying a person of interest in an armed robbery Tuesday afternoon.
According to a news release from the department, officers responded to an armed robbery near the railroad tracks behind the 400 block of N. Apperson Way in Kokomo around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
A 29-year-old woman was walking home after leaving a convenience store located at N. Apperson Way and E. Sycamore Street. The woman told police that a man, who had shoulder length dreads and was wearing a dark colored coat, was reportedly following her after she left the store.
The woman told police that she crossed Apperson Way and the man continued to follow her. As she was walking near the railroad tracks, the man approached her with a gun. The release said that the woman was struck in the face, thrown to the ground and robbed. After the reported robbery, the man ran southbound down the railroad tracks.
The department provided a photo of a person of interest that was taken from surveillance video footage.
