Is the maker of Choco Taco waffling?

Fans of the waffle-coned Tex Mex-styled frozen treat may not be put on ice after the was announcement it would be discontinued.

The unexpected demise of beloved snack appears to have been grossly exaggerated.

On Monday, ice cream brand Klondike announced that due to “unprecedented spike in demand” the “very tough decisions” were to made “to ensure availability of our full portfolio nationwide.” The Choco Taco was a casualty.

The disappointing news sent the internet into a tizzy with fans reminiscing and eulogizing about the Tex Mex-styled snack that some TV reporters admitted not ever hearing about until they had to do stories on its threatened existence. During segments of “The View” and “Good Day New York,” Choco Taco was made available for the anchors and hosts to eat during their live broadcasts.

Following the announcement, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian tweeted at Klondike parent company Unilever that he would like to buy the rights to Choco Taco. The entrepreneur, who is married to Serena Williams, has a venture capital firm Seven Seven Six that invests in food brands.

But by Thursday, a new message popped up, teasing that things may not be what they appear to be.

“Stay tuned…” Klondike’s Twitter account teased, under an image of what appeared to be a Choco Taco at a press conference.

“I want to address the rumors: I’m really being discontinued, it’s not a PR stunt,” the caption read. “I knew you loved me, but not THIS much. While I reflect on this outpouring of support, we are discussing next steps, including what to do with the last 912 (we counted) tacos at HQ.”
