MADISON, Wisc. – In case you missed it, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on Thursday that three more Milwaukee Public School (MPS) buildings have been forced to close their doors due to dangerous levels of lead.
In response to the latest closures, Superintendent Candidate for the Department of Public Instruction, Brittany Kinser, issued the following statement:
“It is unacceptable that children in the Milwaukee community are being exposed to harmful materials inside MPS school buildings and are being denied the opportunity to receive education services in a safe and healthy environment. Immediate action is needed to establish operational systems that guarantee all schools are free of lead exposure and meet safety standards. As I’ve stated before, I will establish a DPI office in Milwaukee to support MPS and ensure they are held accountable for addressing this and other critical issues. Restoring trust within MPS and the broader Milwaukee community starts with taking these necessary steps.”
