MANILA, Philippines — Kevin Quiambao’s debut in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) ended abruptly after the Filipino forward suffered an ankle injury in the Goyang Sono Skygunners’ home loss to the Seoul SK Knights on Sunday.
Quiambao sprained his right ankle after a bad landing following a three-point attempt with still 7:42 remaining in the second quarter. He did not return as the Skygunners’ took an 84-57 beating at the hands of the league-leading SK Knights.

The two-time UAAP MVP out of La Salle finished with six points and a rebound in close to seven minutes of action. He scored his first points in the KBL on a 3-pointer at the 2:50 mark of the first quarter.

Goyang slid to a 9-20 record after absorbing its fifth consecutive loss.
Quiambao immediately took to social media to thank his supporters.

“Thank you for the prayers and support! Brb (Be right back) soon. Sono fighting!” wrote Quiambao in an Instagram story.
The Gilas Pilipinas star’s pro debut was a much-awaited moment not only for Filipino basketball fans. A female Korean supporter was even seen on TV raising a sign with “KQ! Give me your passport” written on it.
Seoul, which also has a Filipino import in Juan Gomez De Liaño, hiked its record to 22-6. Gomez De Liaño contributed eight points, three rebounds, and two assists.

Meanwhile, Javi, the elder brother of Juan, finished with 12 points to end Anyang’s 10-game skid following a 74-67 win over SJ Belangel and Daegu KOGAS Pegasus.
Javi sank two triples, four rebounds, and a pair of blocks as the Red Boosters improved to an 8-21 record.
Belangel had 10 points on top of four assists, and three steals with Daegu dropping to a 16-12 card.
Following his 31-point career night last Friday, Migs Ocson struggled, missing all his six field goal attempts to end up with two points, three rebounds, and two assists and two steals in the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus’ rout of Wonju DB Promy, 94-69.

Ulsan remained at No. 2 with a 20-8 slate as KBL MVP Ethan Alvano’s 20-point effort wasn’t enough for Wonju, which slid to 13-15.
