PERRY COUNTY, Ind. — A juvenile from Kentucky has been arrested for attempted murder in southern Indiana.
According to a press release from Indiana State Police, deputies with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office responded to Rainbow Lake in Derby, Indiana, around 8 p.m. Saturday on a report of shots fired. After a subsequent investigation, law enforcement determined two individuals in the area suffered “suspected injuries from gunshot wounds.”
Per ISP, a person also sustained minor injuries from broken glass during the Rainbow Lake incident.
PCSO deputies eventually located two vehicles that were believed to have been involved in the disturbance. According to ISP, after the vehicles were found, a juvenile male was arrested and transported to the Perry County Jail. The boy was later taken to a juvenile facility.
ISP reported that the two individuals believed to have been shot at Rainbow Lake were hospitalized.
The juvenile police arrested now faces six felony charges:
- Attempted murder, Level 1 Felony
- Aggravated battery, Level 3 Felony
- Battery with a deadly weapon, Level 5 Felony
- Criminal recklessness, Level 6 Felony
- Pointing a firearm, Level 6 Felony
In Indiana, the maximum penalty for a Level 1 Felony, like attempted murder, is a 40-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
PCSO has asked ISP to assist with its ongoing investigation of the incident. Police have not released the arrestee’s name because he is juvenile.
