SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Meteorologist Scot Mundt is taking a break from counting snow and is looking at the mild days we’ve had in March. Here’s what he found.

Temperatures have swung the other way and it was a mild afternoon for many from central to southeast KELOLAND with highs in the upper 60s and middle 70s. It’s the 4th day that Sioux Falls hit 70 in March.

That 4th day of 70 degrees is already 3 days above the climate average of 1 day in Sioux Falls. The most days in Sioux Falls is 15 days, set back over 100 years ago in 1910. In most recent memory we had 13 days of 70-degree weather in 2012.

This is where we are at through yesterday with the number of days of 70-degree heat this month. You’ll notice that many are coming in at 2 to 3 days with the mild days.
However, downtown Rapid City and Sisseton have not hit 70 yet this month. Both had a high of 69 degrees on March 13.

After today, I think our best chance of hitting 70 again may not happen until the last couple of days of the month. And if that mild day happens, it should happen ahead of much colder air.
