The race between Republican U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani and Democratic challenger Kirsten Engel in Arizona’s 6th Congressional District has come to an end, with Ciscomani being declared the victor.
All of Arizona’s congressional races all were called by The Associated Press on or before Sunday, leaving southern Arizona’s most important race in the spotlight.
But in CD6, Ciscomani was leading Engel by just 4,905 votes (49.5%-48.2%) as of Monday afternoon in what’s been a nail-biting contest. Green Party candidate Athena Eastwood was drawing just over 2% of the vote.
Ciscomani earned 189,692 votes and Engel earned 184,787 votes in one of the state’s most competitive districts.
Ciscomani’s win gives House Republicans number of members they need to take control as the majority party.
