Next Wednesday, May 22nd, the iconic John’s Water Ice is giving away a free scoop of their festive rendition of the frozen treat at restaurants and bars across the city in honor of World Paloma Day.
In collaboration with liquor brand Tequila Ocho, the two companies have launched a limited edition Ocho Paloma-inspired water ice that will only be given to Philadelphians for free at nineteen bars and restaurants in the city. The catch? Diners at these locations must snap a photo of their Ocho Paloma cocktail and post it to Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #FlylapalomaPA to receive a free scoop of the dynamic water ice. Can’t make it out to these spots? Customers can buy some at John’s Water Ice (701 Christian Street) while it lasts.
The reason for all of this Paloma-induced buzz? To remind people that margaritas aren’t the only hot cocktail made with tequila.
“Since we have opened, we always have featured a Paloma variation on the menu at El Techo,” says Stephen Pressman, general manager of the participating restaurants/bars Condesa, El Techo, and El Café. “It feels that sometimes it can fly under the radar and I believe not enough people know that it is in fact the national drink of Mexico.”
In their ambitious attempt to draw more attention to the underrated cocktail, Condesa and El Techo will be offering an $8 Ocho Paloma menu, complimentary taqueria bites, and more for a rooftop dance party from 5-10 pm next Wednesday.
