MANILA, Philippines—National University mainstay John Lloyd Clemente will forgo his fifth and final year with the Bulldogs, he confirmed on Friday.

In a statement, Clemente thanked the Bulldogs community for giving him a chance to play for NU not just in the seniors’ division but also in the juniors.

“Thank you very much to the NU community for supporting me for 10 years. It’s been an honor to play as a Bulldog and a Bullpup,” he said.

Clemente’s next step in his basketball career will be making his pro debut in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) with the Pampanga Lanterns.

NU coach Jeff Napa, meanwhile, showed gratitude to his senior cager, saying he was a good example for the NU basketball program.

“He became a good example for our program from juniors to seniors as well as in education,” the head tactician said.

Playing without Clemente, the Bulldogs will rely on star duo Steve Nash Enriquez and Kean Baclaan, as well as Mike Malonzo, Pat Yu and incoming rookie Reinhard Jumamoy.
