They couldn’t just put it out with whiz.

A fire ripped through the iconic Jim’s Steaks cheesesteak shop on Philadelphia’s South St. on Friday.

No one was injured in the blaze, but owner Ken Silver said the building could be a “total loss,” the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Fire chief Adam Thiel told reporters that the fire likely started in the building’s HVAC system. Though smoke eaters were on the scene quickly, the fire took more than four hours to put out because of the intensity of the heat and the tight space.

“We’re very concerned about the structural stability of this building. There really is almost no way to assess that,” Thiel said, according to local NBC affiliate WCAU. “We’re taking a defensive posture in an abundance of caution, and we’re hopeful that we’ll be able to preserve as much of the property as possible — at least the building itself.”

Thiel didn’t provide any possible timeline for inspecting the building. Jim’s on South St. has been a go-to spot for Philadelphians and tourists alike since it opened in 1976. Silver promised to rebuild and reopen.

“I owe it to my father’s legacy. I owe it to the street, and I owe it to Philadelphia,” he told the Inquirer. “We are too important a business to go away, and I truly view it that way.”
