Alapag held the crown for the player with the most-made triples for eight years before the San Miguel star guard leapfrogged over him on Sunday in Group B of the PBA Governors’ Cup.
“CONGRATS to the NEW PBA 3PT KING MARCIO LASSITER!!!” wrote Alapag in an Instagram post published on Tuesday.

“A well deserved honor that speaks volumes of your work ethic, preparation and consistency through the years. It’s been great to watch your growth from our time together with Gilas 1 to a now 10x PBA Champion. Wish I could’ve been at the Araneta Coliseum live to witness that record breaking moment and congratulate you in person!”

Alapag started sitting at the top of the leaderboards back in 2016 when he played for Meralco during its finals series against Ginebra.
The “Mighty Mouse” drilled his 1,243rd triple in October of that year to surpass Allan Caidic’s historic 1,242-made three-point baskets in PBA history.
Alapag would go on to drill seven more before retiring, putting him in what seemed like an untouchable place at the top with 1,250 baskets triples.

That was until Sunday when Lassiter finally eclipsed Alapag’s historic feat to stand alone as the leader with 1,254-made triples.
“Continue to raise the bar for the next generation of PBA players who now have a new record to chase after!! Continued blessings on the rest of your career,” added Alapag.
