BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO) — As we get closer to tip-off, Jackrabbit fans are getting ready to root for their favorite team. They say despite the tough game ahead of the Jacks, they’re ready to watch the team play on a national stage once again.
The Jackrabbit faithful who made it out to Connecticut were thrilled to see a come-from-behind win over Oklahoma State on Saturday, but it was just as exciting for supporters to watch back home in Brookings.
“We had a lot of faithful Jacks fans that were in here, and everybody was loud, cheering and having a good time for sure,” Cubby’s Sports Bar & Grill manager Jeremy Deutsch said.
“I was a little worried there when they got down to double digits. You know, you get a little worried when that happens, but they just kept clawing back. A.J. coached a great game, and the girls just came through when they needed to,” Jackrabbit fan Sean Binker said.
Deutsch expects a good turnout for the game Monday night.
“Tonight won’t probably be as crazy as Saturday being on Monday, but we’ve already got several reservations, and we’ve got a lot of people that come down for most every away game and a good, faithful following,” Deutsch said.
The Jackrabbits will play the University of Connecticut, one of the best programs in the country. It will be a tall task for the Jacks, but their fans are ready to cheer them on.
“UConn is a really, really tough team, and I just hope we can hang with them,” Jackrabbit fan Kyle Robinson said.
“They’re playing in Uconn, but I do feel we have a lot of momentum going into this game amd a real tough senior group. I’m real excited to watch this game,” Binker said.
“We’re going to have to shoot lights out and shock the world tonight,” Deutsch said.
If the Jackrabbits pull off the upset, they would play the winner of the game between Iowa and Oklahoma.
