SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley supports a Louisiana law that requires all kindergarten through 12th grade schools and state-funded universities to display the Ten Commandments in classrooms.

Jackley said in a news release Monday “The Ten Commandments already are displayed in the U.S. Supreme Court and other public buildings. The Ten Commandments have influenced the creation of our nation and our rule of law.”

A federal district court has blocked the 2024 state-approved law in Louisiana.

A similar law has been proposed in South Dakota. A group of state Senators has proposed Senate Bill 51 which would require the Ten Commandments to be displayed in school classrooms.

In addition to Jackley, attorneys general in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and West Virginia have joined the court briefs in favor of the Louisiana law.

The Ten Commandments is list of religious rules that, according to various Bible passages in Exodus and Deuteronomy were divinely revealed to Moses and on Mount Sinai. According to the Bible passages, they were engraved in two tablets of stone, according to Britannica.
