SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Heat and humidity will stick around for the next several days. Along with it, 90-degree heat will be felt across much of the area.

It was another day in KELOLAND with highs in the 80s and 90s. the 90-degree heat has been a theme in western South Dakota through much of the summer as western South Dakota has been the region of KELOLAND with the most days of 90-degree weather.

In a typical year, the days of 90-degree-plus temperatures through July range from the teens for many of us in KELOLAND to the 20s. Yankton and Mitchell both average 20 days through July while Pierre’s average is 23 days. Sioux Falls sits at 14 days.

But this year has been a little cooler than average. All of the cities you see here with the exception of Rapid City are below average when it comes to days of 90-degree heat.

Rapid City is above average with 18 days.

Keep in mind, when you combine the moisture in the atmosphere, the heat index in eastern and southeast KELOLAND will make it feel like it’s 100 or more for Tuesday and Wednesday.
If you are not a fan of this summertime heat and humidity, we do have a break in sight. But that won’t happen until the second week of August when cooler and less humid air comes in from Canada. In the meantime, our days of above-average temperatures will continue for many.
