INDIANAPOLIS — An adult woman said that the alleged molestations committed against a minor in her care were a mistake that stemmed from medication the suspect was taking.

When the detective asked the woman about the man who committed the alleged sexual attacks, she said he was a “good guy,” according to court documents.

The reported “good guy,” Alan Wayne Ress, was charged with five felony counts of child molesting and two felony counts of attempted child molesting.

The investigation began on July 1, 2024, after the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Child Abuse Unit were assigned a report of alleged child molestation that occurred at the 100 block of S Elder Avenue in Indianapolis. The molestation reportedly stretched back to April 14, 2007.

The victim told authorities the sexual abuse had occurred for several years and happened at the home as well as when away on trips. The abuse reportedly began when the victim was around 5 years old and ended when they were around 12.

The now adult victim said both themselves and another victim informed their adult guardian about being fondled by Ress, but the guardian didn’t believe them and blamed drugs.

The victims recounted several other molestations as well, the details of which are redacted from this article.

In a tape, sent to authorities on Feb. 23, 2025, the victim is confronting the female guardian about the reported sexual abuse. The guardian said, “It was a mistake; Alan was on medication.”

This is an active investigation. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
