ATLANTA, Indiana – A large police investigation unfolded on a quiet street in a small Indiana town in Hamilton County on Wednesday morning.
Detectives with Indiana State Police and other law enforcement agencies showed up in large numbers at a home at the corner of Meridian and Walnut Street in Atlanta around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
ISP detectives spent some eight hours on the property, which stirred quite a few questions for those living in the town of about 760 people.
“There’s usually tumbleweed blowing down the streets of Atlanta during the day, there’s just not much goes on here at all,” said neighbor John Ringley. “Makes you wonder what your neighbors are always up to behind closed doors, for sure.”
State Police have shared few details about this police activity so far, but ISP officials told FOX59/CBS4 it is all part of an “ongoing investigation.”
Neighbor John Ringley said he watched law enforcement search around the home and a garage just across the street throughout the day.
“They obviously went in and out of the house, taking whatever in and out of this garage, pulling cars out and into the street,” he said. “There are just a few [detectives] here going through that and everybody else is out in the other buildings of Atlanta.”
ISP said no arrests have been made, but investigators loaded up two cars during the afternoon: one from the home and the other from the nearby garage. Both cars were Oldsmobile Cutlass vehicles. One of which was taken from the home, while the other was towed away from the garage across the street.
As the vehicles were towed away, neighbors said they could not help but think of an old Hamilton County missing persons case from the 1990s.
“Because of the cars,” Ringley described. “The years and the models of the cars, being Oldsmobile ’71 Cutlasses just tend to fit the bill of the investigation they were doing of the guy that disappeared. Especially that car. A ’71 cutlass is definitely a rare car to be around.”
Tony Bledsoe, who was 24 years old at the time of his disappearance, was last seen in a black and gray Cutlass back in 1992. He lived in Arcadia, which is directly south of Atlanta. So far, State Police have not made any connection between Wednesday’s investigation and that missing persons case.
FOX59/CBS4 reached out to town officials and has not heard back. State police said this is an ongoing investigation and no arrests have been made. Updates will be provided as soon as FOX59/CBS4 gets them.
