BENTON COUNTY, Ind. — A person was killed in a fatal Benton County crash on Tuesday, Indiana State Police said.

According to ISP, state troopers and officers from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded shortly before 5 p.m. to a fatal crash at the intersection of U.S. 41 and County Road 300 South.

Preliminary investigation shows that a 1993 Chevrolet truck traveled westbound on County Road Road 300 South, ISP said. That truck then failed to stop at a stop sign, entering the intersection with U.S. 41.

Per ISP, a 2019 Volvo semi-truck and trailer were also heading northbound on U.S. 41 at that time.

ISP wrote that the Chevrolet collided with the passenger side of the Volvo. Police added that both vehicles came to a stop just northwest of the intersection and off the roadway.

The Chevrolet’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Benton County Coroner, but the Volvo’s driver remained uninjured, ISP said.

ISP added that the deceased’s identity “…is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.”
