SOUTHPORT, IN – Indiana State Police is investigating an officer involved shooting with the Southport Police Department.

According to ISP, at 12:29 a.m. a Southport police officer attempted a traffic stop near the entrance of the Berkley Commons apartment complex. The driver of the vehicle led the officer to the 2000 block of Appleton Drive.

The driver of the vehicle then got out and fled on foot, and a foot pursuit took place. Police said that the suspect fired at least one shot and the officer fired his weapon toward the suspect.

The suspect was taken into custody and had injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. He was treated at the scene by officers until medical services arrived, and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No officers or uninvolved people were injured in the incident.

The involved officer was equipped with a camera and it was activated during the incident.

The suspect is now under arrest and the charges pertaining to the incident will be determined by the Marion County Prosecutor’s office.
