Often seen with a line down the block, the newest sports pub in Over-the-Rhine is bringing a little magic to the neighborhood. “We wanted to create a place where people could walk in and escape the world a little bit, without ever leaving Cincinnati,” co-owner and creative director Katie Treviño said. The Pennifold’s Quidditch Pub pop-up experience was created by Gorilla Cinema Presents, the same company behind the Cosmic Gorilla comic book shop.An idea that was three years in the making, bar owners said they wanted to make sure all the pieces were right. “We felt like this was a good time to bring a little magic into the world,” Treviño said.This “wizarding pub” was completely designed by an in-house team. From the decorations to the drink menu created by head potion master, Finn Brennan, bar owners said they want visitors to take in all the care put into making the space feel authentic. “It’s dark and moody like a pub, but it’s also really fun and welcoming,” Treviño said. “It’s a place that families can come to and hang out together.” Part of the magic of the pub was creating an environment that was fun for “Potter heads” of all ages. The experience starts in the line to get in, as a friendly time wizard entertains guests with trivia and games. “We definitely want people to check out our Quidditch Wall of Fame. Fans can follow players, matches and event cheer on their favorites,” Treviño said.Once inside, guests will be directed to their “house” seats where they can sport their house colors, enjoys special treats and some specialty designed signature drinks. “I wanted to create a drink menu that would appeal to regular bar goers but also to non-drinkers and kids,” Brennan said. Wizards and witches are encouraged to go to Pennifold’s Pub website before heading down to the bar. On the website, guests will be able to browse menus and view special events and actives including a Quidditch World Cup tournament. The fun is only around for a limited time, owners said the bar is set to disappear after Halloween. Pennifold’s Pub is located at 1834 Race Street and is open Wednesday- Sunday.
