News broke this week that Kim Kardashian has filed from divorce from Kanye West after six years of marriage. This report from TMZ followed January reports that the couple was close to filing divorce papers but that Kardashian wasn’t “in a rush” to do so. At the same time, though, sources said, the marriage was “beyond repair.”
A source told E! that in the days leading up to Kardashian’s decision to file, “it became very clear that they did not have similar lifestyles or viewpoints.” The source continued: “There was no dramatic final moment between them recently where she said, ‘This is it.'” The insider continues, “They decided a while ago that they were going to do this and go their separate ways.” The source also added that the marriage is “over and there’s nothing more to say and that it was a “long time coming.”
In early January, TMZ published a report that Kardashian and West had been in therapy and that the marriage had been in “deep trouble” for the second half of 2020.
“Kim was ready to pull the plug on the marriage at one point, but it was when Kanye was going through a serious bipolar episode and she felt it was cruel to do it when he wasn’t well,” TMZ wrote then. A source told People on Friday that West is processing the divorce and how it all happened.
“He’s in that place of ‘if only,'” the source said. “‘If only I had done this, if only I hadn’t done that.’ He’s processing things.” The source added that West believes his public bid for president was the final factor that led to the split.
“He thinks that the presidential run was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” the source said. “Before that, there was hope. After that, none. It cost him his marriage.”
A source for E! told the outlet that Kardashian’s family “all fully understand that this is what Kim needs to do.” The source added that she has been talking to her family when needed during this time: “Whenever she is upset or sad, she knows she can FaceTime them or go over to one of their houses and they are always there for her.”
