INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced that its Interstate 69 Finish Line project will officially be completed later this year.
According to a press release, crews will complete a series of minor construction projects this spring and summer to formally close out the I-69 Finish Line project. Work on road shoulders and adjacent travel lanes is expected. INDOT reported that the work will likely cause “minor traffic disruptions.”
The final leg of the Finish Line project will begin on Monday. A breakdown of the construction crews are expected to complete can be found below:
I-465 eastbound
Lane closures and traffic shifts will occur on Interstate 465 eastbound between Mooresville Road and the White River. Three lanes will shift between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Four lanes will be shifted daily between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
The shifting of lanes will allow crews do pavement grooving. INDOT expects pavement grooving to be finished in about three weeks.
I-69 northbound
Lane closures will be implemented on I-69 northbound between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily to allow crews to do shoulder grading and drainage work. The portion of I-69 northbound that will be impacted by the construction is situated between Southport Road and Epler Avenue.
INDOT anticipates shoulder grading and drainage work to be finished by April 4.
I-69 southbound
Lane closures will be implemented on I-69 southbound between County Line Road and Fairview Road between Monday and April 4. Lanes closures will be in place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The closures on I-69 northbound will help workers complete drain cleanings and inspections.
I-465 eastbound and westbound
Mobile barrier walls will be installed on the shoulders of I-465 eastbound and westbound between Mann Road and Interstate 65. INDOT reported that the barrier will be in place for two or three weeks.
Crews will be working near the barriers from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
I-465 westbound
Lane closures will be put in place on the bridges underneath I-465 westbound from Monday through mid-April. Per INDOT, the restrictions will occur “one bridge at a time.”
Officials did not name a specific construction project that is related to the bridges’ closures.
I-465 eastbound (Second project)
Traffic will be shifted on I-465 eastbound between April 2 and the beginning of May. The shift will be implemented on I-465 between I-69 and U.S. Highway 31.
INDOT reported that the portion of I-465 impacted by the shift will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes during overnight hours daily.
I-465 eastbound entrance ramps
Entrance ramps to I-465 eastbound from Mann Road, Harding Street and U.S. Highway 31 will be closed from April 4-6. The closures will be implemented at 9 p.m. April 4 and lifted on April 6 at 5 a.m.
INDOT expects eastbound exit ramps to remain open during the same timeframe.
The I-69 Finish Line project is part of a larger effort to extend I-69 in the State of Indiana. Crews began lengthening I-69 in 2008 in hopes of improving Evansville’s connectivity with Indianapolis.
The new I-69/I-465 interchange opened on the southwest side of Indianapolis in August. Once construction is officially complete, I-69 will run continuously from Evansville to U.S.-Canada border.
