INDIANAPOLIS – The start of 2025 is officially here and the New Year’s celebrations continued across central Indiana all night long.

The Indiana State Museum was one of the first places to ring in the new year Tuesday night featuring the annual Family New Year’s Eve celebration.

Families here enjoyed face painting, New Year’s games, and a whole lot of dancing. The night ended with a grand New Year’s Eve balloon drop featuring 3,000 colorful balloons.

“We have been bringing him since he was a year old,” said Maria Green, celebrating with her son. “He has a blast every year. He loves the balloon drop and he loves to dance all night.”

But the celebrations did not stop there. Just a few miles away the adults enjoyed a night at Newfields with the return of the New Year’s Eve Midnight Gala. The theme this year was Melt into the Moment.

“This is just a great opportunity to get everyone out here and see places, almost a ‘night at the museum if you will,’ and just have a really unique backdrop for your New Year’s Eve celebration,” said Mattie Wethington, the Director of Communications with Newfields.

This is only the second year for this event, and it’s already been a huge hit.

“It’s just a really wonderful time to be together with people around Indy and see all of the exhibits and things Newfields has to offer,” Wethington said.

But no matter where the New Year’s celebrations are happening, families are just grateful they can be out celebrating together.

“We haven’t really been out for several years for New Years so it’s nice to be able to do something family friendly,” said Shannon Kelly, celebrating at the Indiana State Museum.

“[We are] just enjoying the fun with the grandkids and watching everyone else having a great time,” said Kim Bennett, celebrating at the Indiana State Museum.

“Anything we do with our grandchildren, we just love,” said Pam Gott, celebrating at the Indiana State Museum. “We will always remember that and think it’s the best fun!”

Although the New Year’s celebrations may be over for this year, there are still many winter events to check out throughout central Indiana in the coming weeks. Check out the Community Calendar tab on the website now to learn more.
