KOKOMO, Ind. — Troopers with the Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash that involved an officer with the Kokomo Police Department.
The crash occurred late Wednesday evening near the intersection of SR 931 and Vaile Avenue.
According to a news release from the Indiana State Police, an officer with the Kokomo Police Department was on duty driving his patrol vehicle northbound on SR 931 approaching Vaile Avenue.
Officials said that a 2010 Ford passenger vehicle was traveling eastbound on Vaile Avenue when it entered SR 931 in front of the police vehicle. The police vehicle then hit the Ford on its passenger side.
The release said that the passenger in the Ford, identified in the release of 55-year-old Vicky Hollingsworth of Kokomo, was pronounced dead by the Howard County Coroner’s Office.
Troopers said in the release that they were able to develop probably cause that the driver of the Ford was under the influence of suspected alcohol. The driver was transported to an Indianapolis hospital for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash continues to be under investigation by the Indiana State Police.
