INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a homicide after the remains of a woman were found in some woods on the near southeast side of Indianapolis.

According to a news release from IMPD, officers with the department’s southeast district were dispatched to the 1300 block of S Keystone Ave. on a report of possible human remains in the woods at around 10 a.m. on Sunday.

When officers arrived at the site, the release said they located the remains of an adult woman. The incident was later ruled a homicide.

The release said that homicide detectives with the department responded to the scene to begin the investigation and the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency also responded to help identify and collect potential forensic evidence.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the person who died, as well as the cause of death, once proper next-of-kin notification has been made.
