INDIANAPOLIS — A 21-year-old was arrested by the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force on weapons charges after he reportedly violated the terms of his home detention.
According to a news release from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, detectives with the task force were conducting surveillance on 21-year-old Demarco Williams on Nov. 6 after an arrest warrant was issued for him.
The warrant was issued for Williams on one count of possession of a machine gun, a Level 5 felony after he reportedly removed his ankle monitor. The release said that investigators saw photos from Williams on social media that featured him in possession of firearms, as well as a black extended magazine with black and green rubber bands around its base.
“As a convicted felon, Williams is prohibited under Indiana law from possessing firearms,” the release said.
When detectives were conducting surveillance, they saw a white Chrysler 300 pull into a driveway near the 2600 block of Sherman Drive. The release said that Williams was seen exiting the vehicle, causing detectives and IMPD officers to conduct a traffic stop.
During the stop, the release said that Williams reportedly failed to comply with officer commands and “made a movement toward the front of his waistband. This led officers to believe he might have been reaching for a firearm. Officers also reportedly saw Williams toss an item into the vehicle before he was taken into custody.
When officers opened the vehicle’s side door, a black Glock 17 9mm handgun reportedly fell out. According to the release, the firearm had an extended magazine with black and green rubber bands wrapped around it.
Williams was arrested for his outstanding warrant, as well as one count of unlawful possession of a handgun by a prohibited person, the release said.
The Indiana Crime Guns Task Force has seized 229 firearms and has made 199 arrests in 2024, the release said.
