INDIANAPOLIS — A teenage girl was found dead at an apartment complex on south side of Indianapolis Saturday morning.

Per the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Salisbury Lane around 11 a.m. on a report of a person down. When police arrived at the scene, they found a female in an apartment complex’s outdoor courtyard area.

Law enforcement ultimately determined the female had sustained injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. Medics were called to the complex, but the female was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

An IMPD spokesperson later confirmed to FOX59 and CBS4 that the victim was a teenager. The agency did not provide any further details on the victim’s age.

IMPD indicated that is has not arrested any suspects at this point in its investigation of the shooting. Police are also working to determine exactly when the shooting occurred.

Investigators have not determined if the victim lived at the apartment complex where she was found dead.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office is helping IMPD determine the victim’s exact manner and cause of death. The county coroner’s office will also publicly identify the decedent at a later date.
