INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis metro police are investigating after a male was shot and killed on the near east side of Indianapolis Thursday night.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched around 7:27 p.m. to the 2100 block of E. Washington Street in response to a report of a possible person shot.

IMPD said officers arrived and found a male inside of U-Haul suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene, according to IMPD.

As of this article’s publication, police have not provided any suspect information, though they did say two suspects were reported to have been fleeing the scene. According to IMPD, this will help detectives track down any potential suspects.

FOX59/CBS4 is working to learn more about the circumstances that led to Thursday’s fatal shooting. There is no immediate threat to the community, IMPD said.

“If you can’t control your emotions enough to use violence — and especially gun violence — to solve it, maybe should we leave our guns at home, said IMPD Captain John Arvin. “There’s got to be an answer because killing someone — a father, a brother, a husband — is not the answer.”

This is a developing story. Check back here for more updates.
