INDIANAPOLIS — Police found a person with gunshot wounds behind an apartment complex on the northeast side of Indianapolis Saturday night.

During a media briefing, IMPD Captain Mark McCardia said officers were already near the 6300 block of Brookline Drive when they heard gunshots around 9 p.m. Upon further investigation, police found a male who had been shot behind a nearby apartment building.

McCardia reported that the male was transported to from the scene to a local hospital. Police are still trying to determine the male’s age and what condition the shooting left him in.

In an update sent around 11 p.m. Saturday, IMPD reported that its officers also responded to Community North Hospital after receiving a report about a person who had walked into the facility with gunshot wounds.

When police arrived at the hospital, they confirmed the person had sustained injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. The individual who walked into Community North is in stable condition, per IMPD.

Investigators currently believe the person who walked into Community North is connected to the shooting on Brookline Drive.

“The conversations on the scene are always important,” McCardia said. “But often people don’t want to talk to us on the scene at night. So, there are conversations afterward. Somebody out there knows something about this, other than the person that has been shot. So, we’re investigating with people on the scene. Detectives are talking to people on the scene. Officers are talking to people on the scene.

“Somebody out there knows something, and unless they want their community to keep having shootings, they need to call our aggravated assault detectives or Crime Stoppers to give us some information on this because we need to know what’s going on.”

IMPD’s aggravated assault unit is available at (317) 327-3475. Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana can be reached at (317) 262-8477.
